Usman Khawaja’s second hundred of the game saw Australia set England 388 to win in the fourth Ashes Test in Sydney.
Morning Session
Resuming on 258/7, the visitors would add 8 to their overnight score before Jack Leach would be caught by Pat Cummins off the bowling of Nathan Lyon for 10 before Jonny Bairstow would be caught behind by Alex Carey off the bowling of Scott Boland for 113. Stuart Broad would be the last man out, dismissed by the same combination, for 15 with James Anderson finishing 4 not out.
With a first-innings lead of 122, they would lose David Warner as he was caught behind by substitute wicket-keeper Ollie Pope (pictured below) off the bowling of Mark Wood for 3 before fellow opener Marcus Harris would be caught by the same fielder off the bowling of Leach for 27. Marcus Labuschagne and Steve Smith finished the session on 28 and 8 not out respectively.
Afternoon Session
Labuschagne would go in the opening over of the session, caught behind by Pope off the bowling of Wood, for 29 before Smith would be bowled by Leach for 23. Usman Khawaja (pictured below) and Cameron Green would be the not out batsmen at tea with 35 and 26 respectively as Australia would get to 149/4, a lead of 271 runs.

Khawaja and Green (pictured below) would move the score onto 265 before the latter would be caught by Root off the bowling of Leach for 74 before Alex Carey would be caught behind the following ball (meaning Pope would tie the record of catches in an innings for a sub fielder with 4) – Khawaja finishing 101 not out as Australia would declare with England requiring 388 to win.
England would bat out the rest of the day’s play as Zak Crawley and Haseeb Hameed finished 22 and 8 not out respectively with 98 overs scheduled for the final day’s play.
