Current world welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr was seriously injured last night when the car he was driving flipped over multiple times at high-speed ejecting the fighter from the vehicle, he was transported to a hospital in Dallas and rushed into intensive care.
Errol Spence Jr was travelling in his white Ferrari when the accident occured just before 3am, A statement from Dallas Police Department said he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt when the fighter was catapulted into the air. Although the 29-year-old is expected to live, it remains to be seen if he will be able to box again.
The statement read: “On October 10, 2019, at 2:53am, a white Ferrari was travelling at a high rate of speed northbound in the 500 block S. Riverfront Boulevard.
“The Ferrari veered left over the center median onto the southbound lanes and flipped multiple times ejecting the driver who was not wearing a seatbelt.
“The driver, Errol Spence Jr, 29-years-old, was taken to an area hospital where he remains in ICU. He is expected to live.
“The cause of the accident is undetermined at this time.”
Errol Spence Jr recently added another welterweight strap when he defeated Shawn “Showtime” Porter two weeks ago via a split decision to add the WBC title to his IBF belt which he won when he beat Kell Brook in Sheffield to become a world champion in 2017.
A security camera footage has surfaced online after J.D. Miles, a reporter for the local affiliate CBS DFW, showed Spence’s car flipping.
