Mohammad Salah has revealed he is “not asking for crazy stuff” and that his future is in Liverpool’s hands, as contract talks continue to drag on.

Salah’s deal at Anfield runs out in the Summer of 2023, and despite publicly announcing on multiple occasions that he wishes to remain with the Reds, the Egyptian is yet to sign a new deal.

“I want to stay, but it’s not in my hands. It’s in their hands. They know what I want. I’m not asking for crazy stuff,” the 29-year-old told GQ.

“The thing is when you ask for something and they show you they can give you something,” he says, they should, “because they appreciate what you did for the club. I’ve been here for my fifth year here now. I know the club very well. I love the fans. The fans love me. But with the administration, they have been told the situation. It’s in their hands.”

Salah is the Premier League top goalscorer this season, with 16 goals and nine assists in 20 games, but he is currently away representing Egypt in the African Cup of Nations, who suffered a 1-0 defeat in their opening game against Nigeria.

In October, the winger told Sky Sports that he would “love to remain at Liverpool for the rest of his career,” but again insisted it was in the club’s hands.

“It depends on what the club wants, not on me.

“At the moment I can’t see myself ever playing against Liverpool. That would make me sad. It’s hard, I don’t want to talk about it, but it would make me really sad.”

He’s been labelled as the best player in the world on current form, yet currently, he’s reportedly the fifth highest-paid footballer globally.

Until when Virgil Van Dijk signed his new contract in August, Salah was the highest earner at Liverpool. New figures around a deal are being rumoured at £300,000 a week, however, FSG seems stubborn in their decision not to break the wage structure at the club.

It makes sense, at the age of 29, with this being potentially the biggest contract of his career, that he would want a deal that reflects his status in the game.
