Chelsea will be hoping to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan this summer.
The Blues will be hoping to offload several players as manager Enzo Maresca prioritises working with a smaller squad.
Mike Maignan’s contract at AC Milan expires in 2026, with Chelsea hoping to pick him up on the cheap.
Chelsea Hope to Seal Mike Maignan Deal
During the 2024/25 season, Chelsea have struggled to keep clean sheets. Their number one choice goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, has made several high-profile errors, which has stalled the Blues’ title charge. Despite dropping Sanchez for Filip Jorgenson, it hasn’t proven to be as effective, as both keepers have struggled with consistency.
Furthermore, there has been several rumours linking Chelsea with a new goalkeeper. Mike Maignan has been touted highly by the Stamford Bridge hierarchy. Additionally, the French international is set to enter the final year of his contract, casting doubt over his future at AC Milan. It forces the Italian giants to either sell this summer or risk letting one of their prized assets leave for free.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano updated fans on the situation. Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Romano said, “Chelsea and AC Milan are not close on valuation for Mike Maignan. AC Milan want around €30m; Blues won’t pay that as #CFC value Maignan at €10m, being out of contract in 2026. London Club won’t wait longer than Monday as they’re also happy with 4 goalkeepers in their squad.”
Enzo Maresca Hopes to Trim Squad
Enzo Maresca and the Blues hierarchy will need to oversee an overhaul of players. Initially, under Todd Boehly, Chelsea bought a lot of players and now has a squad of superstars, which the manager is struggling to give minutes to.
Whilst fans will be hopeful of incoming signings, there is set to be a massive list of departures. One of whom includes Raheem Sterling; the England winger has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. A subsequent loan move to Arsenal led to the winger finishing the season goalless, and the Gunners are unwilling to make the move permanent.
Additionally, Chelsea is set to sell Kieran Dewsbury-Hall, as well as Christopher Nkunku, who is attracting interest from Italian clubs, and Wesley Fofana. It is set to be a massive summer for Enzo Maresca as his side are set to play in the Champions League and look to mount a title charge next season.
