As a result of their victory in the ‘Africa III’ tournament, South Africa will compete in Europe/Africa Group II in the Billie Jean King Cup next year. After losing to Malta, they had to participate in regional qualifying this year. The South Africans won their pool and also beat Nigeria and Kenya during the tournament, which took place at the Nairobi Club.
Pool A
South Africa earned victories against Namibia, Madagascar, and Zimbabwe in the pool stage. They won 3-0 against Namibia and Madagascar after winning the singles and doubles matches in straight sets. The team lost its first singles match against Zimbabwe before winning the remaining tie matches.

Kenya beat Mauritius 3-0 and Tunisia 2-1. Cynthia Wanjala and Angella Okutoyi won their singles matches against Burundians Hoziane Kitambala and Sada Nahimana. Kitambala and Nahimana won against Roselida Asumwa and Stacy Chepkemei Yego in a super tiebreaker in doubles.

Nigeria defeated Botswana, Ghana, and Uganda to top Pool C. Barakat Oyinlomo Quadre, who won against all three sides in singles and doubles. Her doubles partner against Ghana was Divine Dasam Nweke, while Adesuwa Osabuohien played doubles with her against Uganda and Botswana. Like South Africa, Nigeria only lost one match in the pool stage after Nweke lost to Ekua Youri in the second singles match of the Nigeria-Botswana tie.
Qualifying Playoffs
Nigeria won against Kenya during the 1st to 3rd playoffs, winning the tie 2-1. Quadre beat Kenyan Alicia Owegi 6-0, 6-1. Although Angella Okutoyi won the 2nd singles match, she and Roselida Asumwa were beaten by Quadre and Osabuohien. Both Nigeria and Kenya then lost 3-0 to South Africa.
