Brazilian fans were left satisfied with UFC Rio after a sold-out fight night, full of action.
There were plenty of experienced veterans and prospects on the card, providing knockouts and submissions throughout the night.
Not to forget, Jose Aldo stepped in the Octagon one last time, confirming his retirement from the sport.
But, in terms of the battles, here is everything that occurred after a thrilling night at the Farmasi Arena.
Do Bronx Submits Gamrot and Challenges Holloway
The headliner was certainly an anticipated one for Rio as a Brazilian fan-favourite took to the stage.
Charles Oliveira was aiming to redeem his brutal first-round knockout loss to Ilia Topuria at UFC 317.
Mateusz Gamrot stepped in for this five-round main event on short notice after Rafael Fiziev pulled out due to injury.
The #8 contender had his eyes set on moving up the rankings and claiming the biggest triumph of his career.
The fight began with both men testing each other on the feet before ‘Gamer’ attempted a takedown.
With the submission threat that the #4 contender is, he threatened an Armbar in the first round, which came very close to a tap.
Eventually, in the second round, Oliveira managed to take down Gamrot before taking the back, locking in a Rear-Naked Choke, and securing an incredible win in home territory.
‘Do Bronxs’ extends his record of most UFC finishes and called out Max Holloway in the post-fight interview for a shot at the BMF title in the future.
Figueiredo Secures Redemption Against Bantamweight Prospect
The co-main event featured another beloved fighter in Brazil trying to get back on the win column.
Deiveson Figueiredo was on a two-fight losing streak, with his last loss coming against recent title challenger Cory Sandhagen.
Montel Jackson was on a six-fight win streak and had recently been placed #15 in the 135-pound rankings.
‘Quik’ had the opportunity to boost up nine places in the rankings if he could succeed in enemy territory.
The fight didn’t provide a lot of thrills, although ‘Deus da Guerra’ slightly stunned Jackson at the end of the first round.
Both men were carefully trying to time their strikes and takedowns to ensure they would pick up the victory.
Despite not getting a great reaction from the crowd at the end of the three-round bout, it was deemed very close according to the judges.
Figueiredo did enough to win the fight by split decision, returning to winning ways and keeping his dream alive of becoming a two-division champion.
