Nick Kyrgios is set to return to Roland Garros for the first time since 2017, marking a long-awaited comeback at the French Open later this month. The Australian star will partner with compatriot Jordan Thompson in the Men’s Doubles draw.
Kyrgios Returns After Injury Setbacks
Kyrgios has endured a frustrating period plagued by injuries over the past two seasons. The 30-year-old has played just four singles matches so far in 2025, with his only win coming in Miami.

Speaking about his upcoming return to Paris, Kyrgios said:
“We’ve played at the French Open before, so it’ll be good to get out there and play with another fellow Aussie and have a bit of fun.”
Purcell’s Doping Ban
Kyrgios is stepping in after Max Purcell, Jordan Thompson’s regular doubles partner, received an 18-month ban for a doping violation. The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) sanctioned Purcell for using intravenous infusions that exceeded WADA’s permitted limits.

Double’s Success in the Past
This isn’t Kyrgios’ first time in major-level doubles. He famously partnered with Thanasi Kokkinakis to win the 2022 Australian Open Men’s Doubles, defeating the team of Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell in straight sets, 7–5, 6–4, in a thrilling final.

Love Him or Loathe Him – Kyrgios Brings the Drama
Kyrgios has long divided opinion with his fiery temper, on-court outbursts, and refusal to conform to traditional tennis norms. But even his harshest critics admit that he brings something few others can – pure entertainment.
For many fans, his flair, unpredictability, and brutal honesty are a much-needed breath of fresh air in a sport that can sometimes feel overly polished.
Looking Ahead to Wimbledon
While his French Open return is exciting, Kyrgios has made it clear that Wimbledon 2025 is firmly on his radar. The Aussie reached the Wimbledon final in 2022, losing to Novak Djokovic. He believes a solid performance in Paris could be the perfect springboard for a successful tournament in London this summer.
