Source

After 14 seasons in Formula 1, our beloved ‘Honey Badger’ Daniel Ricciardo may see the end of the tunnel of his Formula 1 career. With eight race wins accumulating 1329 points since his entry in 2011 at the Silverstone Grand Prix, there has been so much speculation that the Singapore Grand Prix has been labelled as the Australian driver’s final race within the pinnacle of motorsport.

But where have the rumours surfaced, and what can we expect after the conclusion of the Singapore Grand Prix? Let’s find out.

Before the Singapore Grand Prix weekend could begin, Daniel Ricciardo arrived at the circuit bombarded with questions regarding his future within Formula 1. Why? The main rumour spreading amongst the paddock is that Red Bull is seeking to replace the current RB driver with their reserve driver, Liam Lawson.

Lawson is no stranger to Formula 1, as he drove for the team formerly known as Alpha Tauri when Daniel Ricciardo injured his wrist in the second practice of the Dutch Grand Prix in 2023. The 22-year-old driver at the time was given five races to prove how he could manage the intensity of F1.

Fortunately, he proved he could tolerate being amongst some of the best drivers within motorsport and scored two points in the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix. This is a quality that Red Bull has and could integrate into RB if they choose to draft in the Lawson.

So, while it is an option amongst Red Bull’s sister team, it is not one that has not borne any fruit.

From Daniel Ricciardo’s performance so far in 2024, the Australian has been outshined by his younger Japanese team-mate, Yuki Tsunoda. And with Daniel Ricciardo’s future still in doubt, Lawson is the next full-time driver in line to take over from the number 3 driver.

So, during this phase of uncertainty, all Liam Lawson can do is wait in the wings and keep himself prepared until he gets the call to take over from Ricciardo.

But if Ricciardo were to be let go by RB, would it be before the United States Grand Prix or after the 2024 season has concluded? This question can only be answered as time passes.

Overall, the emphasis is that we may see the Australian driver leave Formula 1, with an announcement to be made before the start of the United States Grand Prix.
